The most secure way to talk.
COVANAN connects your devices directly, peer-to-peer. Your encryption keys never leave your device, and nothing is stored on ours — no history, no contacts, no records.
Built for teams in finance, legal, healthcare and consulting.
Why peer-to-peer matters
Most tools use a client-server model: every message, file and call flows through a company’s servers, where it can be stored, scanned, breached or handed over. COVANAN is peer-to-peer — data travels directly between devices. There’s simply no central copy to leak in the first place.
Client-server (others)
Your data sits on the provider’s servers — a single target for breaches, subpoenas and retention.
- A central copy of every message
- Provider holds the keys and can scan content
- Metadata and history are retained
Peer-to-peer (COVANAN)
Data goes straight from device to device. Nothing central to store, breach or surrender.
- No central copy exists
- Keys stay on your device
- Nothing is written to our database
Privacy that’s built in, not bolted on
Most platforms encrypt your messages. COVANAN goes further — there’s simply nothing on our side to expose.
Direct peer-to-peer
Your devices connect to each other directly. Conversations never pass through, or rest on, a central server.
Keys never leave your device
Encryption keys are generated and stored locally. We hold nothing — so there’s nothing we could ever decrypt or hand over.
Your IP stays hidden
An optional relay sits between peers and masks both IP addresses, so a direct connection never exposes your location.
Peer-to-peer file sharing
Documents transfer straight from device to device — never uploaded to or cached on a server.
Nothing in our database
No chat history, no message logs, no meeting or attendee records are ever written to our database.
Encrypted contact list
Even your contacts are end-to-end encrypted. We can’t see who you talk to.
Your contacts stay yours — by design
Privacy here isn’t a setting; it’s the architecture. There’s no way to find you, and no copy of who you know.
- No user directory — there’s nobody to browse or look up.
- No search by name, username, email or phone number.
- No contact list is ever stored on our servers.
- Your contacts are end-to-end encrypted with a key only you hold.
You are the only one who knows who your contacts are — not even our database can.
Tired of being found automatically by your phone number?
On other apps, the moment you sign up everyone who has your number gets a “XYZ just joined” alert. With COVANAN that’s impossible — there’s no phone number, no contact-book upload, and nobody is ever matched to you. You appear to no one until you share a link yourself.
How COVANAN compares
The difference isn’t encryption — it’s architecture.

Frequently asked questions
What people ask most — and the design decisions behind the answers.
Isn't WhatsApp already end-to-end encrypted? Why do I need peer-to-peer calls?
WhatsApp encrypts the content, but every message and call still routes through its servers, and the company keeps the metadata — who you talked to, when, and how often — plus cloud backups. COVANAN is peer-to-peer: once you're connected, audio, video, chat and files travel directly between the two devices with no server in the middle. Nothing is stored on our servers and the encryption key lives only in the link, so there's no history, no metadata trail, and nothing for us (or anyone) to hand over.
Why don't you have an iOS or Android app?
COVANAN runs in any browser, so there's nothing to download and a guest can join from a shared link in one tap. Staying web-only also protects your privacy: a native app means an App Store account tied to your identity and persistent push tokens on our servers — exactly the kind of record we avoid. On iPhone or Android you can 'Add to Home Screen' for an app-like, full-screen experience.
Why can't COVANAN ring my phone like a WhatsApp call when the screen is locked?
A full-screen ringing call on a locked phone needs native frameworks (Apple's CallKit/PushKit, Android's Telecom) and a server that constantly knows which device to ring — a persistent identity tied to you. That's the opposite of COVANAN's anonymous, nothing-stored model. On the web we deliver a tap-to-answer notification instead, which is the most a privacy-first web app can do. If you keep COVANAN open, calls ring instantly in-app.
Why are meetings limited to two people — no group or team calls?
Peer-to-peer is what lets us keep zero servers in the conversation, and it works cleanly for 1:1. Group calls need a central media server that receives and re-sends everyone's audio and video — a middleman that can see the streams and collect metadata. We'd rather do private 1:1 properly than weaken the model for group calls.
Why can't I import my contact list?
Importing your address book would mean uploading or scanning everyone's details to our servers — a privacy leak we won't do. COVANAN keeps your contact list small, end-to-end encrypted, and under your control: you add someone only when you're both in a chat and both agree, so no one is added without consent.
Why is there no meeting or chat history?
Because nothing is stored on our servers, there's no history to show — by design. Conversations are ephemeral: when you close the tab, the messages are gone for good. No archive, no transcripts, no trace. If you need a record, copy what you need before you leave.
Is it really free? What does it cost?
Yes — the Free plan covers unlimited text chat, image sharing and audio calls, with our always-on TURN relay so your IP stays private from your peer. Spark Pro adds unlimited video, larger files and screen sharing.
Do I need an account, and does the other person?
You create a free account to start a private chat or meeting. The person you invite can join from the link without an account. Accounts stay minimal — just an email for login; no profile, no phone number.
What happens if I clear my browser data or lose my device?
Your meeting links and contacts are protected by a key that lives only on your device (and, for contacts, behind your password). If you clear your browser data, a meeting link can't be recovered, and you'll re-unlock contacts with your password on the new device. That's the trade-off for storing nothing on our servers.
